How would you re-design the US Post Office where you live?

Hello friends and guests,
I am drafting my next speech; "US Post Office of the future".

If you had the capacity to change the US Post Office where you live how would you like it to be set up?

For instance, my biggest gripe about the Post Office are the hours. Why is the post office only open from 9am to 5pm in most places? That is when we are all at work. Why not open at 6am and close at 8pm.

Let me near from you.

Thanks,
Dan Surman

  1. I would like to see Post Offices open at 6am with full customer service desk operating til 8pm at night. What needs to be done is to see what hours of the day when there is high traffic at the customer service desk and to have enough service reps on hand so that the lines are not that long. On another note there should be more kiosks available minimum of 2 at each post office depending on traffic in that particular post office. Another idea I have is a vending machine for money orders and maybe an information kiosk where one person from the post office is at the desk for people that may have questions in regards to sending material (i.e., envelope size, documentation that may need to be filled out, etc. ) In invite you to participate in this discussion.

  2. My outline for the speech is as follows:

    History of the Post Office
Ben Franklin the first Post Office General
How the post office connected the colonies and eventually the entire United States
Postal Banks - yes at one time Post offices were banks and you would be surprised at how much they had in assets. There were disbanded in the mid 1960's
The demise of the Post Office - the internet age. From cell phones, emails to texting we rely less on waiting for that letter in the mail. We just get junk mail these days.
The revitalization of the Post Office for the future.

  3. HISTORY OF THE POST OFFICE:
Did you ever wonder what made the United States what it is today? Well, you have to thank Ben Franklin for that. He was our first Postmaster General in Philadelphia and his Post Office still stands and operates today. But, it is slated to close as well.
The mail system helped to drive the colonies forward with their rapid transit (at the time) of moving letters and information around the young USA. You could almost say it was the advent of the internet.
As routes were estalbished the road and railway system followed shortly as the population began to grow and move West.
